Come and join us at General Assembly 2018 at First Alliance Church. Our host church relies on hundreds of volunteers to serve the pastors & leaders in our denomination during General Assembly.
We need volunteers who can serve in these ways:
- Food Services (prep, serving, recycling stations etc.)
- Hosts/Hostesses
- Information Desk
- Facility Set up and Tear down
- Load in / Set Up for Tech
- Transportation

Volunteer Opportunities
Time Slots:
Morning - 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM
Afternoon – 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Evening – 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM
*time will vary depending on the task/team but, will never exceed the window given.
Main Task: Receiving people at the entrances to the sanctuary.
- Seat people with a confident smile, encouraging early arrivals to sit in the middle of rows to leave open space at the edges.
- Be available to answer questions. Familiarize yourself with locations of washrooms, lunch areas, networking lunchrooms, bookstore, information table, other things people may need to find following the sessions.
- Be available in special circumstances – locating first aid help when needed, providing direction in case of emergency, distribution of communion (Wed morning and Friday afternoon).
- Communion Prep
Main Task: First contact with people as they enter church – make it count!
- Positions are near entry doors to the building.
- Be ready to answer questions. Know where the closest washrooms are and how best to take people to the sanctuary.
Main Task: Providing hot and cold beverages for all staff and attendees.
- Preparing coffee, hot water, water.
- Take responsibility for a station and ensure adequate supply of coffee, hot water, water, pop. Cups for coffee and tea/hot water, milk, cream, sugar, stir sticks, and napkins must be arranged.
- Pay special attention to the schedule to ensure stations are well supplied throughout the day. Attendees will have their own water bottles to refill.
Main Task: A travel guide who takes people places rather than a travel agent who sends people off.
- Positions are throughout the church, looking out for people who appear somewhat lost or unsure of themselves.
- Be ready to answer questions. Be familiar with the events during your shift so you know where things are taking place.
- Help with crowd control during breaks and lunches. Keep lines moving as best as possible
Main Task: Work alongside a staff member from Alliance Canada national office.
- Respond to inquiries for technical assistance with Assembly App.
- Aid in lost & found and general information.
Main Task: Stage Setup Assistants will help with assembly and distribution of props, set pieces, decor, staging, lighting components, and other elements of stage design both in the main auditorium and in the lobby prior to Assembly 2024.
Main Task: Stage cleanup assistants will reset Bayview Glen Church to its preferred state upon the conclusion of Assembly 2024.
Task will be:
- Disassembly and cleanup of props, band gear, lighting, decor and set pieces
Main Task: Stagehands/ASMs report to the Stage Manager and are responsible for meeting the needs of those on stage, including helping with placement of stands, chairs microphones, and props.
Other duties may include
- Providing and positioning wireless microphones on speakers and presenters
- Directing speakers and musicians backstage
- Communicating with the rest of the technical crew to ensure a smooth, distraction-free event.
- Aiding the stage manager with duties pertaining to the stage, including:
- Ensuring correct equipment is on stage
- Speakers and guest are prompted and aided to enter the stage
- Aid in setting up the stage and cleaning up/setting for the next session
Main Task: Speaker hosts are responsible for ensuring Assembly speakers and other presenters are taken care of from their arrival until their moment on stage.
Duties include:
- Meeting presenters upon arrival
- Showing them to the green room
- Providing them with an up-to-date soundcheck and service schedule
- Offering water or other refreshments
- Making introductions to others as required
Main Task: Camera operators will follow the direction of the Video Director to achieve quality camera shots for use in the livestream.
- While training will be provided, experience with professional video equipment would be beneficial for this position
Main Task: PowerPoint/ProPresenter assistants will help the Display Coordinator with the visual content for projection.
This may include:
- Formatting speaker PowerPoint slides
- Arranging lyrics in ProPresenter or running a slide show for a business session.
- While training will be provided, a thorough grasp of either PowerPoint or ProPresenter is essential for this position
Main Task: Report to and assist the Facilities Manager prior to and during the event.
Tasks include but are not limited to:
- Setup and Arrangement: Assisting with setting up event spaces, including arranging furniture, equipment, and decorations according to the event plan and layout.
- Cleanliness and Maintenance: Ensuring that event spaces are clean, tidy, and presentable throughout the event. This includes monitoring and promptly addressing any spills, messes, or maintenance issues that may arise.
- Security and Safety: Monitoring event spaces to ensure the safety and security of guests, staff, and property. This may involve enforcing venue policies, responding to emergencies or incidents, and coordinating with security personnel as needed.
- Vendor Coordination: Assisting vendors with setup, logistics, and any other support they may require during the event.
- Cleanup and Reset: Assisting with post-event cleanup and reset tasks, including clearing tables, removing decorations, and restoring event spaces to their original condition.
- Emergency Response: Being prepared to respond to emergencies or unexpected situations during the event, such as medical incidents, power outages, or severe weather conditions.
- Maintenance and Repairs: Assisting with maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, fixing leaks, repairing minor electrical or plumbing issues, and addressing other facility-related maintenance needs.
- Cleaning and Sanitation: Performing cleaning duties to ensure that the facility is clean, sanitary, and presentable. This may include cleaning restrooms, common areas, and other spaces as needed.
Main Task: The event setup crew is responsible for ensuring that all necessary equipment, furniture, decorations, and other elements are properly set up according to the specifications and requirements of the event.
Their responsibilities may include:
- Furniture Arrangement: Arranging tables, chairs, podiums, stages, and other furniture in accordance with the event layout and design.
- Decoration Installation: Hanging banners, drapes, signs, and other decorations to enhance the atmosphere and theme of the event.
- Venue Preparation: Preparing the venue space by cleaning, organizing, and ensuring it is safe and presentable for guests.
- Coordination with Other Teams: Collaborating with catering teams, event planners, and other staff to ensure seamless coordination and execution of the event setup.
- Troubleshooting: Quickly addressing any issues or unexpected challenges that arise during setup, such last-minute changes to the setup plan.
Main Task: An event cleanup crew is responsible for ensuring that the venue is returned to its original state or better after an event has concluded. Their responsibilities typically include:
Other tasks include but are not limited to:
- Clearing Tables and Removing Decorations: Removing tablecloths, centerpieces, decorations, and any other items used for the event's decor.
- Cleaning Surfaces: Wiping down tables, chairs, counters, and any other surfaces to remove spills, stains, and debris.
- Trash Removal: Emptying trash bins and removing garbage from the venue, both inside and outside, ensuring proper disposal or recycling of waste.
- Floor Cleaning: Sweeping, mopping, or vacuuming floors to remove dirt, crumbs, and other debris.
- Outdoor Cleanup: As there may be some lunch seating outdoors, the clean up crew is responsible for the removal of any tents, chairs, garbage or any other event decor/equipment
- Equipment Disassembly: Dismantling any equipment or temporary structures used for the event, such as stages, tents, lighting rigs, or audiovisual setups.
- Lost and Found: Collecting any lost items left behind by attendees and ensuring they are returned to their rightful owners or stored for pickup.
- Final Inspection: Conducting a final walkthrough of the venue to ensure that all areas have been properly cleaned and all items have been removed.
Main Task: to assist and direct guests to find parking spots in the lower and upper parking lots of the church.
Other tasks include:
- · Safely directing guest in and out of parking lots
- · Ensuring that guests are only making right turns onto Steeles Ave
- · Directing guests towards entrances of building
Main Task: Shuttling Volunteers to and from Tyndale parking lot to Bayview Glen Church.
Main Task: Dessert Night Team is responsible for prepping, serving and cleaning up after the IW Dessert Night event.
Tasks include:
- Preparing dessert, coffee, hot water, water prior to the start of the event.
- Take responsibility for a station and ensure adequate supply of coffee, hot water, water, pop. Cups for coffee and tea/hot water, milk, cream, sugar, stir sticks, and napkins must be arranged.
- Serving dessert and drinks to guest
Main Task: The lunch team is responsible for serving packed lunches to attendees.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Arrive at least 30 minutes before the start of lunch.
- Prep lunch area before the arrival of attendees.
- Direct attendees to multiple lunch lines and maintain a steady flow.
- Distribute pre-packed lunches to guests.
- Ensure each guest receives the correct meal, including vegetarian and gluten-free options.
- Direct attendees to indoor and outdoor seating areas.
Main Task: The dinner team is responsible for serving dinner to any staff and volunteer at the General Assembly.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Arrive at least 30 minutes before the start of lunch.
- Prep lunch area before the arrival of staff and volunteers.
- Direct staff and volunteers to multiple dinner lines and maintain a steady flow.
- Distribute dinner to staff and volunteers.
- Ensure each person receives the correct meal, including vegetarian and gluten-free options.
- Direct staff and volunteers to appropriate seating areas.
Main Task: Responding promptly to emergencies occurring on-site at the General Assembly Conference 2024.
In the event of an emergency, the designated volunteer is expected to:
- Manage high-stress situations adeptly.
- Delegate responsibilities effectively during emergencies.
- Possess up-to-date first aid certification.
- Demonstrate proficiency in operating a defibrillator.
- Ensure prompt contact with emergency services.
- Preferably hold professional medical training.
